Frequently Asked Questions!

Have a question? Just ask!

Q: What does the PTO do?

A: The PTO runs several events throughout the year, but to give you a better idea, here are some examples:

  • Two educational programs per grade to coincide with the curriculum & two whole-school programs
  • Back to School Luncheon for Teachers
  • Back to School Folders for each student
  • Back to School Picnic
  • Participate in the Yankee Doodle Parade
  • Trunk or Treat
  • Pumpkin Decorating
  • Talent Show
  • Ice Cream Social
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Field Day
  • 4th Grade Celebration & yearbook
  • Scholarships (for graduating high school seniors)

Q: Where does all the fundraising money go?

A: Most of our fundraising goes to providing educational programs: two per grade and two whole-school programs each year. These are costly; this year's projected expense is around $11,000. Programs and events (such as those listed above) can cost over $20,000 depending on how many students and faculty there are. Any funds raised are given back to the school in some way.  Last year, we were able to purchase TWO(!) Chrome Carts for the school. We aim to get enough Chrome Books for every kid at The Kennedy.

Q: How can I get involved if I don't have much free time?

A: We are all parents with children involved in extracurricular activities, so we know what it's like to be crunched for time. Keep in mind that by volunteering, you'll be able to interact with your children and others at the school, meet and become friends with other parents, and make a real difference in our community. Each task, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. Whether scanning your receipts on the Box Tops app, coming in for an hour to copy restaurant night fliers, or organizing the Book Fair, all time is valuable, and we appreciate any help we get. We all have special talents and can put them to great use together! Are you good at writing? Or organizing? Or creating flyers?  We've got a job for you!
